What's wrong with my lilac?

would anyone be able to let me know what's wrong with my lilac tree. I planted two last year at the same time but this spring only one is flourishing. I have taken a picture of both. The left one is growing great. the trees are slightly different varieties. Would that make a difference? Or does the right hand tree need some nutrients?

    There are healthy looking buds on the one on the right so I think it's just that different varieties come into leaf at different times.  It'll soon catch up. image

    Thanks bob, I was hoping that would be the case. Hopefully so.
