Splitting Heucheras

Just dug up a big woody one. Bits split off without much in way of roots so popped them in water. Have they had it, or might l be able to resurrect them?

They will probably make new plants. Heucheras are very easy to divide. I would pot them up with some MPC, and in afew weeks you will probably have new plants for free.

How can you lie there and think of England

I was tidying a border a few weeks ago and one of my Heucheras a nice bright green one variety Malachite came away in my hands. I cut the old woody stems off leaving a few inches maybe 2-3 inches stopped off some of the leaves and potted them individually into 4 inch pots. They have put on some growth and look healthy enough but I haven't checked for roots yet. The pots aren't in a cold frame or greenhouse just half buried in a border in a sheltered part of the garden.

Hi Philippa...no it was just me being heavy handed.like you I get trouble with vine weevils in pots. Just yesterday I intended to plant a lovely Primula Wanda into a border from a nine inch terracotta pot and realised it was a bit floppy..Guess what ..happy munching weevils. I rescued the primula with its pitiful roots. I submerge the plants in water to drown any un squashed devils and hopefully can revive the plants. I even have suffered from  the pest in my  over wintered succulents. I don't usually use any treatment but this year I will. Strangely I never see adults.
