  • Hi Jack3,

yes, puddleplants are brill, I ordered from them for the second time recently and they sent me a free plant.

Tip though- check the postage- I think it was £9 for me so it's best ordering everything in one go.

First time I ordered I got a water soldier covered in ramshorn snail eggs and now I have millions which is also cool image

Jack - it's lovely that you're so enthusiastic about your garden. Be warned - it's a lifelong obsession and may take over your every waking moment!  image

Thanks for that Victoria Sponge, I'm going to order something later, will have to check postage though. Your name has made me want cake now.

Fairygirl, yes I'm very enthusiastic and it has already become a bit of an obsession. I was thinking about this before.

When I first moved here last July, I cut the three foot grass with some shears, sat down in the sun and enjoyed the moment. Then the planning started. It's part of the human condition, always planning, thinking, working out what to do in the future.

I then made a point to have some time everyday in the garden, when one doesn't think about gardening. I think it's worthwhile, just a little time each day, sitting and being, enjoying the garden as it is without thinking about all the things you are going to do. It made me wonder how much time avid gardeners spend actually sitting and enjoying their gardens as they are.

Yes but I've always enjoyed the outdoors more than anything, I love camping etc. I'm now thinking of trying to make a career out of it. I was supposed to start a gardening course in Feb but it's been postponed each month and I still don't have a start date.

  • I have had good plants from some ebay suppliers. One is Maltby Springs Pond, ebay name fishbiz96 and another is waterplantsrus. The latter have a good selection of 50 plants for £9.99 incl P&P at the moment here:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-SELECTION-OF-50-ASSORTED-POND-PLANTS-/261451787530?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN&hash=item3cdfbdad0a

The selection at Puddleplants is also very good as others have said.

Sadly, the selection of pond plants at most garden centres is very poor I have found.

    I have:

    Marsh Marigold

    Water Forget-Me-Not

    Water Mint

    Brooklime

    Hippuris Vulgaris

    Mimulus

    Water Hawthorn

    Crowfoot

Thanks Lancashire Lass. That's good to know, I'll definitely look at those ebay sellers.

Brooklime and Water Hawthorn seem most popular amongst people so far.

i have ordered from ebay and they sent me a free sample of fairy moss...bad idea as its very invasive, luckily where i live in Scotland it died over winter and never came back....i was so much in a hurry to get plants in I never checked to see what I was actually putting in. I have marsh marigold, purple loosestrife, hornwort, water milfoil, white lily, bog bean, penny royal mint, monkey flower which spreads everywhere, brooklime, water forget me not, and water avens, iris, cuckoo flower, goats beard, primrose, cowslip, meadow sweet and cotton grass in the bog garden.

That's a big list Wilbur! Tomorrow I'm going to a place in Southend where they sell lots of pond plants, hoping to find a few more marginals.

Also I have lots of new little plants growing out of the silt at the edge of the pond, will be interesting to see what they do.
