Garden beds
I am a novice gardener and have just moved in to a new house with my first garden I have been digging out beds I had a little top soil then layers and layers of pebbles I have cleared the pebbles and I am now left with beds apparently underneath my garden there was a car park hence all the stones what I am wanting to know is I have read on compost bags that its perfect for garden beds what I am wanting to know is it okay just to add the compost into the holes I have dug or do I need to add something else and not just compost .

compost should be fine, how far down have you dug, and is there hardcore under there, for the previously laid car park?
I would dig compost and well rotted farmyard manure (also available in bags from the garden centre) into the flower beds so that the whole bed is of an even quality and hopefully you will then have at least a foot to 18" deep of good garden soil.
If you just put compost into holes and then plant something there, the roots won't spread out into the surrounding soil.
