Same thing, we are also building a new long border, there was a row of dreaded conifers there which we dug out, hardwork and we have been doing it for months, but it is well worth it.
I love the sedums, they will be covered in bees and butterflys later.

On the other side of our garden there are two big conifers that are taking over, i want to get rid of them and put two holly trees there instead, how did you get rid of yours?
Got a strong OH to cut down and dig them out, depends how big yours are though, you dont want to wear him out. He has just said that if they are over 18inches in diameter, he would have had a machine . You may need someone with a chainsaw then either a tractor to pull the roots out or a stump grinder. May be a profesional job. It will cost a lot.

You have done a good job there, lovely views by the way, our conifer is about 7ft high, think we could cut with a hand saw but looks like a lot of digging for the roots, think we need some weetabix for breakfast, i would send you a photo but our house got burgled two months ago so no camera
ours were 25 years old and 28 of them,, you need an iron bar and a pick axe or matock, dig around the root, out a bit from the trunk, then just pick away, when you come to a long root, just snip it off, they will come out when you start to dig the ground for planting.
The view here is beautiful, i am very lucky to be able to live here. This was today, coffee on the patio, Dartmoor hills in the distance.

Thank you, chicky, its very special to me too. It is very hard work as i have only been making this garden since 2012, started digging borders in winter 2011. Its all from cuttings and seeds which I have grown myself. There are a few Bare root plants all from Parkers sales
Its a huge garden about a third to half acre with lots of borders and a veg bit.
