Slugs gone?

elderberryelderberry Posts: 118

In previous years, my garden has been plagued by big fat slugs, which I believe to be <span class="st">Deroceras Invadens. This year, for the first time, there aren't any. Where have they gone? Has the cold winter/ dry pre-spring killed them off? Are you missing (in a good way)  them where you are, or is it just me?

I don't know my slugs that intimately-are you supposed to give them names?-have noticed losts of snails though and 10+ went over the wall onto the verge today-as I type they have probably found their way back.

It could just be the funny seaons-I would have thought it would take a lot to kill of a slug population or species-they will be backimage

The thing is, they're invaders from warmer climes, so it makes sense that they would be vulnerable to the cold. I'm on the South Coast, so maybe they weren't  so common anywhere less mild.

They are big, fat, devils, about the size of a thumb, and they could reduce an entire crop to stalks overnight.
