Talkback: How to store onions

I need instructions on how to tie a noose?

The rest of the instructions are straight forward.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • My mother used a long double length loop of twine to string up her onions. You then don't need a special noose but just tie three or four big onions together at the bottom, and then bring your double cord up to a hook to hang it on. You can push the neck of each onion thereafter between the two cords before twisting the leaves around and it holds them tight beautifully. She also twisted the cord each time, but I never found that necessary.

They do look lovely strung up, but it is not necessary.  Onions store very well in plastic tray. Or in an old pair of tights if you want to hang them up.

  • Do you need to cut off the leaves of onions before storing or drying?
