Victorian Plum Trees

in Fruit & veg
Hello,
My neighbor on the next plot is leaving unfortunately but fortunately for me he has given me the two plum trees in the images. I need to dig them up to transplant on my plot.
What is the best method to dig up (how far from the trunk) and, best method to replant. Also when is the best time to dig them up?
My concern is, that when the next person comes along and takes over the plot he or she may claim them if I

don't get them out within the next couple of weeks.

Clear the ground around them, start a foot away from the trunk if you get too much resistance below ground go to 18 inches and try again. Dig any planting hole first and take as much root ball as you can. They aren't too big yet so you may be lucky. I'd add some mychorrizal fungi to the root system in the new hole to help it establish and keep it well watered until it settles down.
Perhaps not what you want to hear, but right now when the sap is rising really isn't the best time to move any trees......much better carried out when they are dormant.
