Hi all, we have an Elaeagnus macrophylla hedge which is getting way out of control at the top but is becoming very tatty and sparse at the bottom, which is actually the part we see and want to be thick to provide privacy. Two questions: (1) when can we prune back the plant to reduce its height [someone told me to wait until June] and (2) is there anything we can do to get it growing nicely at the bottom again?
