Hi, It's been over 2 months since I sowed my Verbenabonariensis seeds and other than possible one seed germinating, nothing. This is what I did:
sowed in seed trays with Innes Seedling compost. Put in propogator and put in summer house. Nothing for over a month. Then put propogator is kitchen (good light). Shortly after, 1 bright green curly (?) plant showed, but nothing else. Nothing since. The compost holds on to mositure, I occassionally spray surface with water. I once watered from the top and the only plant I had disappeared(if it was a plant). I would be grateful for your advise as I would love to grow this plant. Should I start again, perhaps I am too late . Live in Aberdeen. Thanks, Alastair
Sorry your verbena's didn't work out. I successfully sowed some in April this year like this:
sowing compost in seed tray mixed with vermiculite
covered seeds with vermiculite, no lid
kept in conservatory with temperature fluctuating between low teens and 20+ in good light and sunshine
spray watered them from top but allowed the comp to dry out first
I expected them to be erratic as it said so on the packet. It also says to put them in the fridge for 1-2 weeks if nothing happens. I can't remember how long it took for them to germinate but I don't think it would have been more than a few weeks.
They have been outside in small pots for about a fortnight. The earlier germinated ones are about 2-3".
The seedlings have a reddish tinge to them for ID purposes and have serrated leaves like the grown plants.

Hope this helps.
