Ok... So I've got summer / early autumn under control with my selection of annuals... What should I be starting to think about for winter/ next spring? Are there 'winter annuals'?! When should I be planting bulbs for next spring? Thanks oh wise ones!!

Blimey you are keen! You dont need to plant Spring bulbs till September for most, but later for Tulips.
Start sowing som perennial seeds for colour next year.

It will be useful to make a list now of what you would like for next spring, and then in September you will have some idea of what bulbs etc you would like.
The garden centres will have lots of winter bedding such as pansies and polyanthus and wallflowers to plant in September.
You can grow wallflowers and polyanthus and stuff like that from seed if you like, ready to plant out for next spring. But don't be too over-keen with the bulbs - a lot of people don't advise planting them until well into the autumn. And perennials or bi-annuals would be okay to plant now.
There were some gone-over tulips and daffs at the GC today for 50p a pot. You could buy them up, let them die back properly, store the bulbs and re-plant in the autumn. Sometimes that is the trick - to go to the distressed plants section and buy the things that are just going out of season, store them and forget them and wait till the season comes round again. Sometimes the GC doesn't have the patience or the time to keep out of season stuff till the following year, but us gardeners are playing the 'long game'!
You are organise!! I'm revamping some part of the garden and struggling!!
