Grafting on newly planted apple rootstock

I have planted some M25 rootstocks a few weeks ago and planning to graft them in two weeks. Someone I know have mentioned that I should rootstock to grow ungrafted for a year as grafting now might kill the plant.
Is this something to worry about or can I proceed?
