    I'll take another pic tomorrow but what it looks like now is Mandragora officinalis, mandrake. If it is that's surprising, it's a long way and across a pond to a mandrake. Also the mandrake has only fruited once in all the years It's been here and that was 8 or 9 years ago

    Bit off the wall,  but it couldn't be a germinated avocado stone? From the compost heap perhaps...

    If you scrape away near the stem is there roots or a big seed?

    The where it was and the stage of growth told me it wasn't a gerbera but there's no way you could know all that Matt. 

    I don't grow gerbera either, that's a bit of a clue, available only to me

    Edd, it looks totally right

    pansy, I've often thought of testing that story but  was worried the RSPCM might find outimage

    My new pic will have to wait til tomorrow, OH has taken the camera out to play on an old bike (aka old men's) run
