I'll take another pic tomorrow but what it looks like now is Mandragora officinalis, mandrake. If it is that's surprising, it's a long way and across a pond to a mandrake. Also the mandrake has only fruited once in all the years It's been here and that was 8 or 9 years ago

Bit off the wall, but it couldn't be a germinated avocado stone? From the compost heap perhaps...
If you scrape away near the stem is there roots or a big seed?
The where it was and the stage of growth told me it wasn't a gerbera but there's no way you could know all that Matt.
I don't grow gerbera either, that's a bit of a clue, available only to me
