I posted an article last night Clarington (above a few posts), I've just had another read and it doesn't say anything that I can see about location re sun/share etc. mine is next to a fence and has grown quite a lot, not particularly shady but not too sunny either. I don't think they are a 'fussy' plant, well they can't be as I've done nothing with mine, never even fed it until this year, and it has still grown
Thanks OL and Scroggin, I did read the article but thought perhaps I was being a little simple and just couldn't see the where to plant instructions! Glad to see they're accommodating - I think they'll go closest side to the hedge as this'll be the area I'll struggle to reach most (and don't really want to be constantly up against the hedge annoying their little dog!) So it'll be better for me to have a near bomb proof plant that stays there all year round.
I'm not going to pull any rhubarb this year as the crowns look quite little and I've no idea how old they are so I'll treat them as first years and make progress from there!
Goodness, my rhubarb looks positively tiny in comparison to these, then again I am trialing growing rhubarb in a pot, I ought to be thankful its even come back this year. The leaves are still babies but I have 7 or 8 stems coming from the crown and thats in a 13" diameter pot (depth 10").
Edit: Just wanted to add location, Manchester, Lancashire

Rhubarb will grow in shade but you will get green stems if it doesn't get some good sunlight.
