Either the size Blue Baron has them planted out or about 6 inches. You can bury them deeper and they will make roots from the stem making them more stable. I tend to dot them around rather than plant a bed or too close together, then if you do get a slug/snail attack they won't get them all. I guess it depends on your temps and weather in your area at the moment of planting out though. I am a bit Devil may care about these things!
I think some of mine might have self seeded. got some little shoots coming through in a pot where I planted dwarf sunflowers last year. they are either sunflowers or marigolds (had them in the same pot). I'll try post a pic but I think they look more like sunflower sprouts from when I have planted them in the past. I havent really done anything for them - the pot is just outside my house by the doorstep, when i noticed them coming through I thinned them out a little, replanted some and accidentally snapped a few or pulled their leaves off (I felt so mean and cruel!) but other than that nature seems to be doing the hard work for me!
Thomas thats a bonus then mine are going strong all of them to I update a photo tomorrow all of mine have four leaves now tough little buggers I am learning which is a bonus to
That's good Thomas. I think something has self seeded where I have sown my Candytuft but not sure what as I can't remember what was there last year!!! There are definitely 2 types of seedlings but not sure if the other is a weed
