Moving lily bulbs
in Plants
On gardeners world last night. There was a segment on lilies - Monty had started lilies in pond baskets and he was transfering the baskets into pots. When they'd finished flowering he was going to lift the baskets out from the pot.
I have 3 pots of lilies at the allotment all showing growth above soil level, and I would very much like to transfer the bulbs into the pond baskets......as I like this idea.
My question is...
When is the best to disturb the bulbs in order to do this ?

I thought that the idea was to plant into baskets and that transferring bulbs that are in growth is not recommended. That is why he uses the baskets, I have had similar success with bulbs in pots that have large holes in the base. I just transfer them into planters when the spring bulbs are finished.
missed a word out in the original post....lol.....it should have read ;-
When is the best *time* to disturb the bulbs in order to do this ?
After they have flowered or when you plant them up in January. I think MD was a little naughty to show a "here's one a prepared in January" moment.
Makes for better visuals a, "here's one I done earlier." haha - cheers kate !!
