Fragrant shrub

Raz10Raz10 Posts: 1

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum.

Please may I have suggestions for a fragrant shrub to plant in front of my dining room window. This looks out onto my front, south facing garden so get lots of summer sun.

The area of soil is a 1m semicircle bordered by a pebble drive. It should not grow too tall, 1-1.5m is sufficient.

Thank you in advance,

Raz

Lavender would look gorgeous.  Loads of different ones here and at other specialist nurseries http://www.norfolk-lavender.co.uk/shop/lavender-plants-lavender-angustifolia-c-61_62.html image

There summer daphnes which might be good as well. Daphne tangutica is a lovely small shrub, beautifully scented.

there's a hybrid called 'Eternal Fragrance' which flowers for a long time but I don't rate as highly as tangutica

For me it is hard to beat a hardy trachelospermum (Chinese star jasmine) but it does need to climb up something.  And I have a hardy gardenia which put on a lot of growth last year.  Love daphne too.  I think I garden with my nose!!

Will that philadelphus virginal perform well keeping it cut to 1mtr. Mine grew quite large.

Its hard to choose just one sweet smelling shrub, they only flower for a quite short time, I think probably the lavender is the longest flowering time.

Choisya is my favourite too.  It smells beautiful, has a lovely layered look and is no fuss at all.
