KEF, 3 does look like parsnip. are parsnips perennial?
It is definitely not a parsnip. No veg in this garden yet and it would have been something I bought last year. Here is a slightly closer pic, in case it helps.
Im with hostafan it looks like spirea gold flame but a bit sceptical if the previous photos add to it been the same plant

Is the hollow cane in the photo part of the plant?
No Nut, that is just a cut down bamboo cane that I had put in the ground last autumn so I knew where to expect my plants to pop up again.
No photos of last year's garden showing any flowers?
I thought this was an umbellifer at first. I'm less sure now.
