Definitely a primula obonica, I've got a purple one on the coffee table. If you take it out of its pot, you will probably find that it's root bound and should be potted on into a slightly bigger pot, otherwise it will have to be watered practically every day.
Checked that, Sue. Roots just getting to the edges so not quite pot-bound yet . Mum bought it from a supermarket, unlabelled, for £1.99 I think so it's not doing badly.

If it's a primula, can't it go outside?
It will not take any frost, it's intended to be a houseplant.
