Valeriana officinalis root is used to induce sleep. I think the one above is Centranthus ruber, also called valerian.

Its in quite a lot of herbal remedies. You could try Kalms or Natrasleep. it is often mixed with passiflora. If you want to try a herbal remedy, I recommend you look for a product licence no. on the label. Lanes are a good brand with years of experience.

I find I sleep as soon as I hit the pillow. Anything on the telly after 9pm has to be recorded because I usually fall asleep half way through, and miss the end.

I'm sleeping ok at the moment Fidget (apart from when Oh is away as I've said but that isn't too often now thankfully).

The product I tried was from a reputable local health shop so I think it would have been ok, it makes you have strange dreams though image

  • So everyone thinks its Valerian or Centranthus ruber, I have googled images and I can not see a exact resemblance but thats the problem with googling images I guess and experienced gardeners image Thanks everyone I appreciate all your help

Google images only want to show flowers. Even if I search for leaves or seeds or roots, I get flowers.

The leaves look right and the tops look right, I had doubts about the way the stems all seem to come from the ground individually in the pic. It's too dark to go and see what mine look like. In my memory there's a hard lump of stem at the bottom and the stems come off that.

Something strange happens when I enlarge the pic. I get an extreme close-up of the front of your carimage

Possibly Centranthus ruber, but can I just throw Saponaria officinalis into the ring (aka Soapwort, Bouncing Bet etc etc etc)  - I can't find any in my garden to check (I weeded it all out last week but there'll be plenty more in a month's time) but my Keble Martin looks pretty similar.
