Phellanopsis orchids are pretty easy to keep. Mines out of direct sun light but on a window cill.Gets dunked in a sink of water once a fortnight or when I remember. And it keeps flowering. Fairly cheap to buy these days too.
Aloe Vera? Mine (alas given to a friend when I moved and hasn't been replaced yet) seemed to survive being forgotten, drowned, knocked off the windowsill by a neighbours inquisitive cat...
