Orchid lady asked about dogs understanding a foreign language! I read once that when they record bird's distress calls and then play them to frighten birds away from aircraft runways they have to catch local birds to record their alarm calls as apparently birds have local accents too.
Not so much of a "one off" daft thought, but I feel really guilty if I only manage to give a liquid feed to some of my plants in pots, and others have to wait for another day I feel guilty at eating my breakfast unless the birds have got some food, I'll get my coat before they come to take me away !!
KEF I know exactly what you mean - like the others are looking on and feeling jealous, and sometimes I even explain to them 'Don't worry, I'll get some more and then you'll be first in the queue'. Once they have it explained to them, they are happy to go on living for a couple more days while they wait.
Edd, thank you for advice; I will be sticking a hair dryer up my nose later
About animals and language; I remember reading something a long long time ago (when pterodactyls flew over Hyde Park): a vet in Soho was able to recognise that a cat belonged to an Italian family because of the way it said meow! He then went on to say that all cats meowed in the accents of their owners.
I know my sister trained a friend's dog when she was about 17, in French, and that dog would only ever respond to French after that
Orchid Lady - are you putting up a picture?? I know exactly how you feel. The local wood pigeons regard any garden structure as a 'perch and poo' opportunity, and no sooner had I started putting the glass in, than there was a massive black and white splodge on the roof. After panes-takingly (did you see what I did there?) washing up every bit of the glass in the kitchen sink, drying it and replacing it, I was not amused. How much do air rifles cost?? Mind you, don't want shot holes in the glass either!

So do cows. And dogs. Apparently.

Having just finished my GH, I was gutted that it is dusty already and now been rained on and was tempted to clean the glass already
