Well with regards to not cutting down a Hawthorn Tree as it protects you from Witches, perhaps its the thorns that would protect or indeed the same would apply to Holly too Pottie Pam, either way it would'nt stop Witches from flying over any type of tree or hedge, on their Broomsticks I would assume, dos'nt seem to hold any substance that O.W.T. however I would'nt like to test it out, I'll just let my Hawthorn do its own thing.
When i took some red and white carnations in for mum, the nurse ran to another patients flowers and pulled the pink one out, she said red and white flowers were a sign of death!.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Gardenjeannie I have heard that too about asparagus and planted it one of our gardens, unfortunately we had to move, even before harvesting So tend to think that it's true but I am a little superstitious. Stupidly planted more in our next garden and moved again, I was totally convinced it was true, although we didn't sell the house I was unhappy where we moved to and are moving back to house and asparagus bed! Now I'm totally confused about that superstition.
Yes MrsGarden. Really, moved back to the same house. We rented it out for a year but didn't settle in our new place, missed friends, garden and central location. Very happy to be back. I have no idea what that means about asparagus tho. Time will tell again I suppose. Perhaps Chicky can prove the asparagus old wives tale wrong and stay close to your asparagus bed.
Pissenlit (literally means to wet the bed!) is dandelion in French, yes. That's because they drink it as a tisane - it is a known diuretic - and blimey is it effective!

I heard that if you wear a kitchen foil hat, you won't get abducted by aliens; well, it's always worked for me
I heard that if you grow asparagus you will soon leave that house! It happened to me in my last house and now I'm not sure I dare grow it here
I thought it was the rowan tree that you must say a prayer to.
