Take a look at these solar fountain : http://www.powerbee.co.uk/solar-outdoor-fountains.html They are  a well-made product and does exactly what it is supposed to do

I had a great solar  fountain , it got a good height when the sun had charged the batteries . We lost the remote to switch it on and off and it won't work now , we are moving house next year so I will look for another then

We took the plug off ands ran the cable through the airbrick thing that ventilates under the floorboards(don't know what it's called) and then poked it up through a hole in the floorboard, reconnected plug and plugged it in the house.

Cable outside ran along  by the wall so it couldn't get tripped on or damaged.

I only wanted it for the sound so bought a cheapo frog shaped thing and hid it under the hedge.

    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Solar fountains are great but a good one is twice the price of a mains pump. I've fitted them for pebble pools and big ish waterfalls. Just Google solar solutions fountains.  :)      if you go down mains route, make sure you use a circuit breaker !

I came across this recently, does seem a little shallow and on the cheaper side but worth a gander - http://www.tesco.com/direct/4-in-1-solar-bird-hotel/390-0903.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=390-0903

I have several fountains and use solar panels in them.  I live in California where the sun shines a lot and  the panels get fully charged every day. I love mine and find them to be a great solutions for areas where you don't have electricity.

Think it's pretty certain that you get more sunshine in California than we do in most parts of the UK

How did the men get away with such bad hair?

I still do jeans and t-shirts but no beads and bells any more.

On the original subject - we need a water feature or two and should have enough sun for solar powered but is there one that can store energy so a pump or lights work in the evening or are we going to have to lay cables?

  • Solar water features these days are good, the only obvious draw back is when the sun goes in however you can get battery backup solar fountains too, so basically in the day it will charge up and work when needed, pretty handy. Here’s what I mean http://abodeii.com/best-solar-powered-fountain-pump-with-battery-backup/ I’d like to know your thoughts on the battery backup though if any of you have ever used one, cheers.
