Yes punkdoc - I have started watching Beechgrove too thanks to folks on this forum whom without I wouldn't have known about it.

Beechgrove gave me pause for thought this morning as I just bought some ornamental cherry trees, and they are bit like sticks, but if I were to clip them down a bit, maybe they would bush out a bit....?  If they were like the actual cherries at the Beechgrove...!  But they are still on daffodils up there, and we are nearing the end of the tulips.  Always feel like they are telling us to do things that we should have done a month ago, if we are in England.  So feel like I've missed the boat a bit.  But I do love its user friendly format.

  • For me it isn't a matter of personally liking or disliking Monty Don. I've never met (or would wish to meet) the man...... I just expect better from anyone presenting GW.

Oh, I too very much enjoy Beechgrove and respect all of its well informed presenters.

My first comment on the show.First off,I think it could easily be stretched to an hour.Secondly,I like the gentle, relaxed format and MD has such an air of calm about him.He doesn't shout or swear image and his dog is a pleasant reminder that its not just us humans who can enjoy our gardens.

PS - I've learned a lot from the show too but 30 mins is over way too quickly.

I rely on the show loads and have to say I'm so sad that next week we wont get it because of snooker ! Surprised that it can't just be put on at a different time.  Will just have to rely on you lot and this website next week then imageimageimage

Yeah I know - snooker....!  A game played by blokes in seedy bars between beers (wishing the smoking ban hadn't interfered with the atmosphere).  Gardening, a healthy outdoor pursuit, enjoyed by both sexes equally, with the promise of fresh air and organic foodstuffs.  And they wonder why we are nation of overweight morons.

  • Be-it snooker, golf, cricket, tennis, darts, bowls....to name a few, I can't imagine why the BBC imagine the public want the saturation coverage they provide.

There'll certainly be no GW during the forthcoming football World Cup.

I'm sure if someone invented underwater chess  ,BBC2 would cancel Gardeners' World for it.

The point I have made is that a minority hobby gets more coverage than gardening which is the most popular hobby in the UK.

The BBC is funded by the licence fee, it should not pander to big business but cater for the licence fee payer.

My personal experience is that motor racing is a giant corporate jolly.

We digress it is a fact Gardening is a low cost majority hobby and the BBC does not serve it well, I am sure you agree.
