I am led to believe that varieties that are evergreen are not as hardy as deciduous ones. This has something to do with which side of south Africa they are from. Google queen mum. Bought some from a specialist at tatton park flower show, expect to pay more but you will get more varieties to choose from with expert advice.
Pound land sell agapanthus. Just buy loads and shove into a container. Hey presto!
Just to put my penny worth in - I have tried to grow them in pots and had no flowers at all, just leaves. So this year they are in a herbaceous border (we will see what happens!)

Thanks Chicky will try that. Can't remember what mine are called, they are a darkish blue. Fancy getting some more this year.
Congestion of the roots and being pot bound seems to be the problem with planting agapanthus out in to a boarder. But it shouldn't be
Some expert state that this shouldn't make any difference to the plant and to be blunt it shouldn't
Give agapanthus the right growing conditions and feeding at it will perform as good in a boarder as in a pot

Perhaps they are just difficult plants to grow???
Lancashire Lass, totally off topic but are you on the Daily Mail commenting?? If it's you, I've just seen your comment about the runner
Not me Tracey - I'm a Telegraph reader! Hope the Daily Mail comments were sensible given that someone is presumably using my forum name.
Back on track, at least on the subject of gardening, I have just spent a pleasant hour replacing and top feeding my container lillies.
I do love gardening, helping bring everything to life again, and we have the Spring and Summer to look forward to!
