Flowering Climber
In my main garden I have a horrid telephone pole/cable (the bottom half of the cable is covered with bright yellow plastic tubing for high viz purposes). I would like to 'disguise' the cable with a flowering climber, but have no idea of what variety, although hardy perennial preferable. All/any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Any chance of a photograph? And could you let us know how much light the pole/cable gets and soil conditions? And do you want it to be covered all year round? Was thinking about the colour - maybe if you got a yellow climber the yellow plastic would blend in better. Maybe an evergreen clematis (white, but coverage all year) or a tangutica (yellow), or I love freemontadendrons, but wonder whether they are more suited to walls than poles.
Thank you - the front garden is South facing and full sun. Soil is fairly heavy but pretty good. I was thinking along the lines of flowering hardy perennial? Look forward to hearing from you
I'd plant a vigorous rambling rose, something like a Kiftsgate, Bobbie James, Rambling Rector or Paul's Himalayan Musk - it would soon obscure the cable and grow up into that tree - it would look a picture
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
And you can sometimes companion plant roses and clematis to extend the flowering season. Some ramblers are lovely for two or three weeks, but that's your lot - we had a beautiful Albertine rose at our first house, but the flowering season just wasn't long enough for me!
Agree about the climbing rose - good choice, and would plant with a clematis Montana which are vigorous and need no pruning so the clematis would start off in May and the rose should follow a month later.
