Anything that's substantial enough to cover that will need some sort of support I guess. If it was me (and my budget is always zero too by the way). I would grow some sweet peas in a deep container and use cheap old canes to make a screen that at least hides it in the summer, until I could afford to build a proper support. I'm not sure what could grown in an average pot that would be big enough to cover it? I think most vigorous climbers would need a pretty large pot. A long term solution would be a wisteria grown around a sturdy support system (so that you would have enough access/safety). According to the RHS website they can be grown in containers.
I'm only a new gardener definitely no expert! But those are my thoughts...
id love to get rid of the paved area and have a big bed there, but ive trained my dog to toilet there, and its very handy for cleaning, as the drain cover is right there... loving the pallet idea tho!!!
