Perennial Geraniums

I have several clumps of various perennial Geraniums and see they have put out rizome like stems above the gournd.  Should I just leave it all or should I cut these off to have a smaller clump.  Would these become new plants if I replanted them. They are really leafing up so dont want to impare the plant for this summer.  Help please.

I regularly lop bits off my cranesbills and plant them elsewhere but I like to have a bit of root attached just to give them a fighting chance. This from the RHS

    should help. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/plant?plantid=862

A lot depends on the species/cultivar.

If you've got leggy bits with leaves on the end you could pin them down to the soil and they'll probably root and make a bigger clump. Whether you want a bigger clump or not is up to you.image
