Help identify this plant with red buds

DanaeDanae Posts: 3
Hi there, I am brand new to these forums so hello everyone! I just moved into a new house and am trying to get to grips with the garden, and there are a lot of mystery plants in the garden for me (I've never had a garden before!). This plant is growing on our front garden by a rose bush - at first I thought it was dead as there were a bunch of dead stems above it, but then I noticed the bulbs. A few people at home thought it was rhubarb but that seems like an odd thing to grow next to a rose bush! Does anyone have any ideas? http://i.imgur.com/4xv0L8vl.jpg Thanks!

    Hi Danae, welcome

If you click on the tree in the tool bar and follow the instructions you should be able to upload a photo.

My guess for your plant would be a paeony.

Hi Danae,  click on the  tree icon on the toolbar at the top of window where you type your post, and follow the instructions to help you post a pic.

The red 'bulbs' will probably be the emerging shoots of a perennial. If you can get a pic on, someone will be able to help identify them  image

As a guess, the new shoots of Peonies look like that.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I wasn't so sure after I'd looked at the photo though Fairy, (I didn't manage the link first time round) the buds look a bit pointy and the old stems too stiff.

A few more days of fine weather and the leaves will develop - that'll give us a better idea image
