When to move a rambling rose?
in Plants
Hello,
Last autumn I planted a rambling rose (Veilchenblau) to replace one I thought was dead. Now I wish to move it. It came in a 2l pot. I can't remember when the best time to do this is- winter? Spring? Autumn? Would it be ok rambling over a fence? TIA.

I think roses are moved when dormant but I should think you'd get away with moving one that hasn't established yet any time before real spring.
Compare size of rose against size and strength of fence. I've not grown that one
In the sticks near Peterborough
Yes it's best to move them whilst dormant, they will soon be putting on growth so if you do it now you will get away with it. Add some mycorhizal fungi when replanting it will help it establish more quickly.
Thank you! That was my hope
. I bought some mycorrhizal fungi today to plant my new apple tree and added some originally to the rose. New fence panels put in where I had been thinking of growing it. Will have to think carefully on this one! There is a different rambler growing up one of 4 geriatric lilac "trees" at the back of the garden. Now that I have done partial renovation pruning to the others further back perhaps there will be enough light for it to establish under one of those
. It could use something there on the back perimeter.
