Do I put this on, then grass seed or just put the lawn sand on and leave it .will grass grow back. It was grass last year the lawn but slightly patchy . The area is pretty shaded but not fully depends what time of day.. never had a garden before so totally stuck what to do. Any help please. Charlene

You really need to improve the drainage first. Spike it with a fork and brush sharp sand into the holes. The holes need to be about 6 inches apart. Then sow with a grass seed specifically for shady area's. It will take time, but drainage is your biggest problem. If you can improve this then you should get a better result.

  • Thanks I have spiked the lawn with a garden fork . Ive scraped all moss up n put some lawn sand on. Should I now leave it a bit or can I put grass seed on straight away. Yes you can sow seed now, as for drainage the sand will help, but as it's rented then anything further will be difficult without the approval of the owner.

  • Ok thanks for ur help image
