Planting out Garlic

I planted garlic in a mini plastic 'greenhouse' last autumn and they are now about 6 inches high.  At which point should I plant them in the ground?

I'd get them out now if your soil's not too wet - we have free-draining loam so planted ours direct in the ground last autumn and now they're growing away nicely.

Annie - what kind of garlic is it?

Mine have been outside in the ground since December 15th quite happily (planted directly into the soil) - my main concern would be on how damp your soil is as many people say they don't like it too wet.

I too planted some (q deep) in October and they're now doing well.  I also planted some in modules in the g/h three weeks ago (as recommended by MD for onions) and they're rooting.  Going to start hardening them off tomorrow; onions too, to take advantage of this anticyclone.
