Pruning Hankey Pankey

I have posted this on the 'Techniques' page, which I think is the wrong place so sorry folks. Noticed that this Forum dept seemed more appropriate.

I am a novice gardener and need some advice re pruning my Hankey Pankey - planted the year before last.  It is about 4' tall and had a few nice blooms last Summer but I think it could probably do better as I am sure I didn't prune it properly last year.

On YouTube someone suggested pruning each stem above the 7th bud from the base, after removing any dead/damaged stems. Is this good advice?  There are lots of shoots and one or two buds - I am nervous about cutting these off!  Help!

Many thanks for any advice.

Lyn
