Pruning 'Hankey Pankey'

Apologies if this is the wrong 'department.'
I am a novice gardener and need some advice re pruning my Hankey Pankey - planted the year before last. It is about 4' tall and had a few nice blooms last Summer but I think it could probably do better as I am sure it hasn't been pruned properly .
On YouTube someone suggested pruning each stem above the 7th bud from the base, after removing any dead/damaged stems. Is this good advice? There are lots of shoots and one or two buds - I am nervous about cutting these off! Help!
Many thanks for any advice.

Hi Lyn, welcome to the message board!
Can you tell us what sort of plant 'Hankey Pankey' is? The only thing I can see listed when I google it is a hosta, and I don't think yours sounds like one of those.
If you don't know what it is, then can you remember what month it flowered last year? That will help us give you good advice on whether to prune it now or to wait.
Or, even better, post us a picture!

..whatever it is, I wouldn't mind some of it...
There is a rosa Hanky Panky on Peter Beales' website http://www.classicroses.co.uk/products/roses/hanky-panky/

Nice one Salino! (Story of my life...)
Yes, Dove, rose sounds more likely than hosta!

That video sounds the right way to go about it - prune to an outward facing bud and make a sloping cut just above the bud.
