Using fibre (not rubber) carpet underlay as a mulch on allotmets

I've got some of the old fashioned fibre underlay and wondered if anyone has any experience of using it as a weed mulch

    Unless I knew what was used in the manufacturing process I wouldn't use it anywhere that I would grow anything to eat although I would use it as a weed suppressant on pathways.
