Where to put greenhouse?

Hello, Just been offered a free greenhouse from my neighbour. Amazing! It's missing a few glass panels, but that is easily sorted.

However I have no idea where to put it. I have two locations I can choose from and I am hoping someone can help me decide. They are both along the same fence line which faces South. However location 2 (the one with the coldframe) is slightly shaded at times due to the house casting a shadow at certain times of year. However the advantage to this location is it's a larger area and not in the middle of the garden!

Any suggestions would be great?

Slightly shaded is fine as long as it gets plenty of light.   Next to the coldframe will be very handy for the hardening off process.

philippa, I was told they should run North South so the East gets sun in morning, mid-day it shines down the whole length and evening the West get the sun. I think in reality, most don't have gardens big enough for that sort of decision.

  • Thank you all for your quick replies.

It's glass all the way to the bottom.

One site is concrete the other is paving slabs.

I will probably use it for vegetables, like tomatoes and peppers.

I think I'd prefer it on the paving slabs (near the coldframe), so it wouldn't stick into the garden as much, but OH has just said it will be difficult to drill into the paving slabs without them cracking? any ideas here?

P.s We are very lucky and have lovely neighbours both sides, always offering help and chatting away to us image
