dahlia tubers in ground through winter question.

  • the cotton wool will soak up water and rot the tubers, the polythene will seal in moisture and also cause rotting,

    best idea is a mulch of compost about 2 inches thick and a thick layer (about 6 inches thick) of straw, it lets the water in, but doesn't hold it close to the top of the tubers. but at a push a large plant pot filled with straw might work
