  • Have you thought about choisya? It grows quickly, needs no 'know how' and is a pleasant yellow / green all year round.

    Holly, Laurels, Lonicera, privet, Photinina Red robin and Yew. Personnally I like Yew as you can shape it in any shape, keep it into a compact hedge and you only need a few per metre to make a great, expensive looking hedge. Mix with Red Robin and plant annuals or bulbs around the hedge and I think that will tick all your boxes.

  • Laurels are a good choice look nice and can be maintained, avoid connifers they absorb all the goodness and will kill off any grass and if not maintained will quickly take over the garden, if you want some colour have a look at hydrangea's they can be good for giving some privacy and they are my fav image
