Newbie - should I start over ?

Hi

I have moved into  a farm property that has a small but fair sized veg patch (there is only two of us).  It has a few good seeded crops in it - asparagus, everlasting spinach, rhubarb, strawberries, as well as some fruit trees / bushes (which need nursing but one thing at a time).

My question is I have no idea how long the same things have been grown in the same spots and the soil looks a bit lax on the main bed areas.

Am I better off scrapping it digging it over and starting from scratch - event if that means losing the crops that might be there?

Thanks

Pru

Maybe the strawberries need renewing, but otherwise I would just feed the soil with plenty of organic material. See how the crops do this year, if they don't do well then a move may be in order, but I wouldn't rush things just yet. A re-organisation in the early winter may be in order, but I'd be patient and see what else may come up in the meantime.

Most of those can stay in the same place for a long time. Just give them a good mulch with some well rotted farm yard manure or compost.

Ooooh, looking forward to the asparagus season - let us know how it gets on image
