    Yes, your pic is green alkanet. It comes up all over my garden in sun and shade and the poorest of soils. leave it to flower and it looks like a giant forget me not, very pretty and the bees are crazyfor it. it will grow in your shady border and make big clumps.

  • Mahonia's, Vinca minor for ground cover & Iris' may work too. Why not try a climber along the fence? Evergreen ivy may be nice or if you'd like a flowering plant try a Hydrangea anomala or a clematis you like.. Have a look at the RHS plant selector.. its brilliant

    ..a popular shrub that is in flower right now is Ribes sanguineum... this is in full shade position in my garden, in that it rarely catches any sun at any time of year...I think it faces directly north...I sometimes feel a bit sorry for it, but it's full of flower..
