Plant in a row in the veg plot about 2 inches apart. Just cover with soil and water in.

You can grow in modules inside and then transplant but its not necessary.

I'd sow direct in mid-March if your soil's not too wet and we don't get a cold snap

Planted in a big long tub and placed outside about two weeks ago and no shoots yet

I sowed some beetroot 10th March - a few came up on the 23rd, but the rest are only just appearing now - patience NewBoy2 image

Yes they were given to me and they had been just stored in an open envelope

I sowed some beef tomatoes and carot seeds from the same person and still no shoots

  • 2 GREAT Beetroot Recipes..

Im not an avid lover of the beetroot but done this way I cant get enough. 8 medium beets cooked  peeled then grated ( is easier) or finely cubed into a large bowl.   In a saucepan dissolve 1 pint white wine vinegar with 1 pint sugar. bring to simmer and add enough gelatine  according to packet and whisk, dissolving thoroughly, pour over the beets, mix well ,then ladle into containers. I use butter tubs. place in fridge till set.

         Fabulous with salads,  yummy.

With  a Sunday roast ,as a must have add on.   Peel and slice 1 red onion fry in 1 tablspn olive oil. till softened, add 2 heaped deserts spoons of sugar and 5- 6  of balsamic vinegar, season and add 3 medium roughly sliced cooked /peeled beets, add 1/4 chicken cube and a good splash of hot water, stir well. cook in open pan on low simmer till liquid is absorbed by half.

Adjust sugar and vinegar to taste,  extremely moorish!  be warned.
