self watered planters- for which plants

I am very new to gardening and would prefer to start with containers to be more in control, I noticed these self watering planters, do they work, and if yes which plants are suitable for them?? is it better to plant indoor plants in them or vegetables? any advice would be appreciated

Hi Samal. I have Pelargoniums in self watering troughs that are outside through the Summer. I used them so that the weight of water in the bottom made them less likely to blow off the wall.

On the down side they can get waterlogged if we have heavy rain and you need to tip them to pour water from the base.

Must say I'm not a big fan, but they are useful for my purpose. I prefer to judge how much water to give by the weight of the plant pot.

They might be helpful to use for "thirsty" plants if you aren't there to water them. I have also know people grow greenhouse crops in them.
