Parasene superwarm 4 heater

Hi, I'm having problems with my heater I just bought. I've followed the instructions for setup correctly but when I light the heater and go back to check it it's either billowing sooty smoke and like a blast furnace I turn it down and go back later and it's doing it again. Again I turn it down and when I check it again it's gone out. I've checked the wicks they're not frayed and were well soaked before lighting. Any ideas how to get this to work properly? Thanks
