Barley straw extract is perfectly natural and is fine in wildlife ponds - it works well in ours while the oxygenating plants are getting going - it's only a month old.

    I bet!

Are your plants in planters? They are looking good I need my planters to be more disguised.

I've got a problem with blanket weed in my raised pond and cannot find anything to get rid of it. Tried the barley straw, didn't work. Have tried 2 different products ( sprinkle in the water type ) and neither has made any impact on its growth.

Dove - your pond is looking really good and mature.  I love the reflection of your tree in the water.image

My naughty shetland just finishing off the miniature bullrushes. I hope the dragonflies can find something else to climb up!

The first bud on the waterlily. I hope Robbie doesn't get a taste for them.

My Exmoor got into one of the ponds on the smallholding and ate almost all the bullrushes - it seemed to send him totally loopy for several hours image

Try watercress Hartleyhare. Just buy a bag from the supermarket and chuck it in. It feeds on the nutrients that the weed likes. Easy to pull out if it gets a bit big.

Is your pond shallow? That can contribute as the water heats up  more quickly.
