Rhubarb Crown with No Roots ?
Hi friends
Bought my first ever rhubarb crown about 10 days ago and kept it in doors until it has become a bit warmer here in Bristol
Turned the pot upside down expecting some soil to stay attached so I could plant out
All the soil fell away and I was left with just a black crown with no roots
? Is this OK from your experience please
Answers on a post card please

Sounds like one of the more advanced forms of death NB
I doubt if it all rotted away in the 10 days of your care. Take it back
In the sticks near Peterborough
I wouldn't have kept it indoors - rhubarb is very tough - it comes from Siberia!!!
It would've been fine outside.
Nevertheless, roots don't rot away in 10 days - take it back and expect a replacement.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks ...I will
Hi newboy I arrived x4 rhubarb crowns from dtseeds (GW offer) and one was similar to what you are describing had no roots to talk of but did have signs of growth. I have just planted it ( ur thread spurred me to go do it) after I rang dt brown to ask their advice. They said that the roots will develop when true growth starts and that not all do come with intact roots..... Could be a line but ax it had signs of growth I'm happy!!
I did however complain about the mould/ mildew on the bottom and another 4 ate being sent!!!! I'm going to be over run with rhubarb now!!!
Took it back and got a new one
Also just been given 3 crowns for nothing so Its Raining Rhubarb !!
