Viburnam Tinus
in Talkback
I have a Viburnam which is just about to flower, how lovely! it's about 8' high x 8' wide and all the leaves have holes. Would like to use for flower arranging, what should I do? will it survive if I prune harshly, like down to the ground?

Viburnam Tinus whoops!
Oh dear, could it have Viburnum beetle?
That's Viburnum beetle. Not a good pest for a flower arranger.. Yes they come back if you cut them back hard
In the sticks near Peterborough
The beetle eggs over-winter on the bark of the stems so cutting back now should remove a lot of them. Keep an eye on it in April and May - if the new foliage is being badly attacked by the newly-hatched larvae, you could consider spraying. Pyrethrum sprays are considered organic as that is derived from chrysanthemums.
