My next project is a storage box for fleece and hessian sheets that I use for frost protection. It is a long way back to the garden shed to store them during the day and I have to go to work, so a storage box down thew garden would be useful. Cheaper to make than buy. It will be 36x18 x20 inches high.

Ever so impressed Gardengirl, I made a fence at the bottom of my plot with some pallets and didn't need to take those apart.

I'm making raised beds at present for the allotment but have plans for a bench like no expert's, not the delux versionimage, I've a couple of half pallets which may make a two seater and then me thinks a compost area but your table is looking like a real possibilityimage.

I've also discovered, some pallets are put together with staples, ever so easy to come apart using the stone method.

I can rather smugly say I made an asparagus bed with my old pallets! Took them to bits, fixed the four sides with plastic ties, painted it green to match the shed, tied one of those big builders bags inside it, filled it with compost, manure and silver sand and 4 years ago planted four asparagus crowns.

Waited the compulsory 2-3 years while they established, had a superb crop year 3, but last year - nothing! I think the very cold long wet spring was to blame so I'm hoping for a better crop next month. (I kept the bin insulated and covered over the winter just in case.

Hi, I live in the High Wycombe area, does anyone know where I can get pallets from, I used to see them everywhere and now I want some I cant find any!  If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

I managed to collect various pallets last summer and started with simple troughs but then got a bit confidence and a bit more creative...it's fun and it's free!

  • Could someone advise me if there is something I can wash a wooden pallet down with before I plant it up with vegetables please? I'm worried that any chemicals might leach into the plants. Thanks in anticipation.
