The true leaves should come quickly after germination, well they do in toms. Have yours become leggy? I'm just wondering where you have them. In my opinion it's far too soon to have tomatoes germinated.
The only seeds I'm sowing in Feb are sweet peas - I won't be sowing tomatoes until the end of March. Nasturtiums and marigolds I sow straight into the ground around mid to end of May.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
How long since they germinated Matthew?
it's been a week, maybe I was too eager, I only planted half of my seeds (I had loads from last year) and they are in a window. I will see how they go and if they don't work I can try them again later, I am very new to gardening, so any advice on when to plant is gratefully received. Cheers.
Don't give up yet! If they're on a windowsill you'll need to keep turning the trays to prevent them veering towards the light. Do you have somewhere cooler they can be put once they are strong enough to be pricked out? And don't overwater - just keep the soil damp (I use one of those bottle-top sprinklers that go on top of an old lemonade bottle).
Sweet peas like a deep root run so get them into tallish pots (5 or so to a pot|) before they develop too much.
I've got all sorts of things in seed trays right now but |I do have a cold greenhouse to move them onto when they get big enough, and fleece to throw over the top if it turns really cold.
