Hi All,
I have this wonderful shrub in my mixed hedge that is simply brilliant for early Spring pollinators but as I didn't plant it I'm not sure what it's called. Can anyone help me please?
And with Bumblebee Bombus terestris on today.....
Many thanks
Higgy

Chimonanthus praecox or wintersweet.
Nice picture of the bee
Hi higgy, it also looks a lot like my winter honeysuckle ... Here it is, although without the blue sky or bee!
my first thought was Chimonanthus praecox, but kinda looks likes Lonicera Purpusii. I'm going to go with A: instinct ,and B: fidgetbones and say Chimonanthus.
Looks like Lonicera fragrantissima to me but it is a hard to see it properly as the blooms are going over a bit.

I'd go with Lonicera. One of them, I think purpusii, tends to have leaves when it flowers and fragrantissima doesn't. But this may be just mine and where they are growing.
and I may have gotit the wrong way round

Looks like my winter honeysuckle too
I would say L. fragrantissima or purpusii or the hybrid between the two. The differences are so slight that you need a magnifying glass to tell them apart.
Yes, now I've woken up properly, I think L purpusii or something similar too. Sorry, my head nor very with it at 6am this morning.
Need another coffee FB? We've got a pot on the go ....
